Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

What would you think if I told you there’s a way to free yourself from traumatic memories—without having to talk about them in detail? Or maybe you’re feeling stuck in old patterns, past wounds, or limiting beliefs that continue to impact your life and relationships. What if you could explore these deeper layers in a gentle and effective way?

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an evidence based therapeutic approach that utilizes rapid eye movements to help process traumatic memories and lessen the distress they cause. These eye movements activate neural pathways in the brain, allowing for a reframing of emotional responses associated with past trauma.

Research increasingly supports ART as a brief, safe, and effective treatment for PTSD, depression, anxiety, grief, and other mental health challenges. The therapy begins with an assessment, identification of key memories, and clear goal-setting for the sessions ahead. Each ART session typically involves recalling distressing experiences, guided eye movements, imagery replacement techniques, active therapist involvement, and a feedback period. Significant benefits can often be achieved in as few as 1–5 sessions.

Advantages of ART

Accelerated Resolution Therapy offers distinct benefits that set it apart as an effective therapeutic approach.

Efficient - ART follows a structured framework, typically consisting of one to five sessions, the initial ART session is scheduled for 120 mins and follow up ART sessions are scheduled for 90 mins. The techniques used are designed to help provide rapid symptom relief as they emerge.
Directive and Interactive This therapy incorporates interactive strategies from CBT, including in vivo exposure to manage triggered responses, imagery rescripting, and client-driven solutions to help process and heal from trauma.
Memory/Image Replacement
-  Rather than altering factual memories, ART focuses on changing the emotional impact of traumatic experiences. Through voluntary memory replacement, individuals replace distressing images with more positive ones of their choosing, reshaping how they feel about past events.
